The Spirit and History of CARTEN100

From an initial four riders in 2004 the challenge of riding the 100 miles from Cardiff to Tenby has kept growing in popularity with more and more friends, colleagues and acquaintances joining in. Today CARTEN100 has c1800 riders taking on the challenge.

For All Levels Of Riders

Our ride is not a sportive or a timed race. We welcome all levels of riders from experienced cyclists to those who are new or coming back to cycling.

The CARTEN100 ride takes place over a thirteen hour period and we support our riders with feed stations that have grown from our initial site which was the “Express Café” at Margam for the full English to what we have today at Baglan, Bury Port, Carmarthenshire Athletic Rugby Club and the Alpha Inn at Tavernspite.

An Achievable Challenge

From the outset of CARTEN100 the two main objectives of this fun cycle are to set an achievable challenge for novice riders to encourage them to become fit and enjoy cycling, and to raise money for good causes – in 2018 we celebrated a million pounds raised.

The CARTEN100 is open to all ages and abilities are encouraged to ‘have a go’ having undertaken at least some training, as although it is fun, it is also a challenge as the riders of the ‘marmite years 2013 & 2014’ found out when they spent all day cycling into a head wind.

CARTEN100 2023

A Classic CARTEN100 year with good weather, little wind and a sunny Tenby to enjoy at the end of the ride. New sponsors Andrew Scott Ltd provided the finish pavilion in Tenby Harbour. Tenby Lions provided the food an drink for all.

CARTEN100 2022

2022 saw life for our riders and CARTEN100 return to normal with a finish in Tenby Tudor Square. Our Charity partner Latch was our main beneficiary. Great weather made for a superb ride and end to a long hard day. The conversation was all about doing it again in 2023.

CARTEN 2020/21

2021 was quite an achievement after 3 cancellations due to COVID19 before the ride finally got away in September 2021. We supported Velindre over this period. With a change in the finish and a different feel for our riders, we were delighted to get riders on the road again.
