At last CARTEN100 was able to have a normal year after Storm Hannah in 2019 and the 3 cancellations due to COVID-19 in 2020 and 2021. 1900 riders took part on a lovely calm day and from Cardiff the riders were able to cycle all the way to the finish in Tenby town centre and then go down to the harbour to the Finish Pavilion to be fed and watered by the Tenby Lions.
LATCH Wales Children’s Cancer Charity was the main charity for 2022, but we also started our own fundraising scheme for smaller local charities and organisations, SPOKES FOUNDATION.
Applications from small local charities, organisations and groups along the CARTEN100 route are welcome to apply for a donation from the Spokes Foundation. The trustees of the fund will select suitable applicants and award funds as they see fit from the fund.
Other charities and organisations to benefit in 2022 will include:
Back to normal.
CARTEN 2022 allowed the ride to return to it’s usual finish in Tenby’s Tudor Square. With music from Nation Radio filling the finish, the atmosphere was back and watching relieved riders arrive and be met by their families was fantastic.
Tenby harbour was in full use with the Tenby and District Lions providing food, beer and shelter in the Finish Pavilion. This was a welcome rest for the riders and families and the atmosphere was excitable with tales of the ride being recounted from all angles.
Finishers T-shirts were distributed and there was an opportunity to buy a souvenir poster or CARTEN100 Spokes Ale as a reminder of the event. The marquee was buzzing right up to closure at 9.00pm when the volunteers finally get to stop, shower and get fed.
One question kept on popping up. “When is the 2023 CARTEN100!”
Please have a good look at the photos on the above link, they are available to all for free, just download the files you want.
See you all in 2023. By the way, the date is Saturday 6th May.
In addition to our shirt sponsors we also receive invaluable help and support from numerous other individuals and businesses. We would like to particularly thank Bridgend Ford and Sigma3 for their provision of support vans on the day of the ride. We would also like to thank those volunteers for their technical support on the day.
