Following our first ride postponement to avoid storm ‘Hanna’ the revised June date proved very successful and we raised a total of £101,244! Our charities for 2019 involved ‘Riding out Taboos’.
Cancer effects everybody differently, from how it manifests in a body to how a person copes with diagnosis. This year we are working with several key charities and donated £21,000 to Jo’s Trust (Cervical Cancer), £21,000 to Prostate Cymru, £21,000 to Llamau and £8044 for Marie Curie all to raise vital funds and awareness of these “taboo” areas of health. We’ve also donated to and a number of smaller donations and organisations helping us on the day:
- Wales Air Ambulance
- National Association of Blood Bikes
- Pedal Power
- Kidney Wales Foundation
- Jacob Abrahams Foundation
- Pembrokeshire Action to Combat Hardship (PATCH)
- Tenby Sea Cadets
- Raglan Boys and Girls Club for their help in hosting us for a refreshment stop
- Burry Port RNLI for their help in hosting us for a refreshment stop
Battling the Storm
CARTEN 2019 was a memorable year for the CARTEN100, it really tested the crew as it was the first time they have ever had to reschedule following storm Hannah’s arrival on the original date of the ride in the April.
Luckily we work with some fantastic people across the 107 mile route whom helped us secure the new date of the 2nd June. What followed that weekend was a fantastic day had by all our riders, volunteers and supporters. We really got the weather right this time and the atmosphere was terrific with the camaraderie that we have come to know at the CARTEN100.
We had a great photographer on the day who took shots though out the day at different stages, follow the links above to the albums, you are welcome to download them.
Our fundraising campaign for 2019 included shirt sponsorship reaching £30,000! We are very grateful to our regular sponsors Resolve it, SofaSofa, Tredz, Romilly Financial, Bridgend Ford, Persimmon Homes, AD Gas Services, Integral Geotechnique and Lewis Civil Engineering for their continued support. We were also delighted to welcome new sponsors Chemical Corporation, Blue Water Recruitment, Morrello Clinic, Trubloc and H&D Stevens from Size of Wales on the CARTEN100 shirt for the first time. Thank you all very much for your very generous donations!
In addition to our shirt sponsors we also receive invaluable help and support from numerous other individuals and businesses. We would like to particularly thank Bridgend Ford and SofaSofa for their provision of support vans on the day of the ride. We would also like to thank those volunteers for their technical support on the day. A big thank you also goes to Steve from Mckenzie Dry Stores who supplies all of the bananas to keep us going along the route and to Prince’s Gate for keeping us hydrated.
